remember during powwow season to keep a close eye out for native women and children at the powwows who are targeted by tourist with sexual assault.
Sexual assault rates and violence against Native American women did not just drop from the sky. They are a process of history.

as if we didn’t already know that returnofkings is a toxic website built on a foundation of misogyny, sexism and rape culture, then this article that vincent vinturi posted yesterday that literally justifies rape, proves it greatly
”I barreled through her resistance nonchalantly”, ”With rape laws the way they are in countries like the US and Canada, it’s downright scary to be a man” and “If a man finds a woman SO incredibly desirable that he would throw his freedom, reputation, his whole life away to fuck her, that shows the woman is on the highest echelon of desirability” are some (among many) of the deeply terrifying things that is writtenand if you go and look at the comments below the article you’ll se that he is far from alone in these beliefs, which is just downright horrifrying
so don’t you dare telling me that rape culture isn’t real, ever
i read this and the comments pretty much made me feel sick
i want to snap their necks
the statistic is NOT “1 in 3 native women will be raped in their lifetime”
the real statistic is “1 in 3 native women will be raped AT LEAST ONCE in their lifetime”
this is a very important distinction to make please make it known im serious. also its worth noting that 70% of our rapes are carried out by colombus’ crew aka white men. murders also happen more at the hands of white men. this is all important information and im pissed it was ignored in that photoset

so laut ich kann.: lilbijou: tylerunbreakable: I hate rape as much as the next person,...
I hate rape as much as the next person, but people on Tumblr are both annoying and stupid about it. I agree that people need to be informed on not raping, but rape will always occur. You are an idiot if you really think that there is a way to get rid of rape…
Any of the times… maybe stop putting yourself in the position you were raped.. idk they if you have been raped then there is a higher chance you will again. But that seems ridiculous. Feel like take a rape prevention class or stop going to place you went before. Insanity(doing the same thing over and over expecting a new outcome) help stop insanity.. and change up your routine.
trteal89 you, too, are blaming the victims of rape rather than the rapist. If we (rape victims) stop going to the places where we were raped or places like the places we were raped where are we allowed to go? How quickly will no where be a safe space for us to be? People get raped in their own homes, on the street, in buildings, in stores, in schools, etc etc etc. Stop blaming the victims and put the responsibility where it belongs.
How “perfect” do I have to be for it to be the rapist’s fault and not my own?
Below: Rape Victims and Survivors Shaming Questions/Comments:
“If you were more physically fit you could have fought them off…”
“What were you wearing?”
“Maybe you should have been carrying a weapon…”
“Maybe you should have taken self defense classes…”
“How did you treat them? Did you smile at them before…?”
I have a question. DX Is it true that 1 in 3 Native women will be raped in her lifetime? I just saw a post about it pop up on my dash (this post specifically whyihatewhitepeople(.)tumblr(.)com/post/62772161487/original-photos-are-not-mine-i-just-added-the) and I've never heard that before. I'm very disturbed. :(

yes it is true; 1 in 3 Native women will be raped at least once in their lifetime. And I have seen two differing material stating that 75-85% of those rapes will be committed by non-Natives. Very disturbing. Also, keep in mind that many rapes are unreported.
you keep mentioning rape as if all indian girls get raped which is not true just bc it happens to you doesnt mean those costumes do that

1 in 3 Native women will be raped at least once in their lives. <— Is what I said. Exaggerating won’t validate your statement. The only Native women I know, who have not been raped, are children. I don’t know any Native adult women, in person, who have not been raped.
Costumes do not create rapists; however, the media (including costumes) depicts Native women as being primitive sex objects. This targets us. Those costume are not only racist, offensive, and disrespectful but harmful too.

Catcalls make us feel unsafe. Catcalls remind us that, at any moment, even when we feel safe, we could be assaulted. Even if we were all superwomen, capable of dodging all harm, catcalls tell us that we’re only objects, waiting to be objectified by the next brazen creep who walks by.
