84yo Asian American victim of NYPD brutality to sue city for $5 million

I blogged earlier this year about the story of Kang Chun Wong, the 84 year old Chinese American man who was brutally beaten by New York City Police Department officers after he was stopped for an alleged incident of jaywalking. Wong, who speaks predominantly Cantonese and Spanish, was walking on the Upper West side when he was stopped by Officer Jeffry Loo at the intersection of 96th and Broadway.

According to the NY Daily News, Officer Loo asked for Wong’s identification, which Wong provided. However, when Loo began to walk away with the ID, Wong — not understanding what was happening — protested. That’s when Loo, along with several officers pushed Wong against the wall of a building and then slammed him to the ground, bloodying his head. Witnesses were horrified, capturing graphic pictures of Wong being handcuffed and taken away.

Wong was eventually charged with jaywalking, along with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, however the Manhattan district attorney’s office decided not to prosecute the case.

Now, Wong — through his attorney Sanford Rubenstein — is suing the city and the NYPD for $5 million dollars.

The 16-year-old Jasmine Thar was shot and killed in the front yard of a Chadbourn home on December 23, 2012.  The Killer James Blackwell, 23 year old White Man, who lived across the street, says his 700 Remington Rifle went off without pulling the trigger. Jasmine was in the car with her mother and the bullet actually hit both of them. Jasmine would die from the bullet wound.  The investigation determined that the death was the product of an “accidental discharge”.  When the investigators searched James Blackwell’s (The Killer) home they found Confederate flags and NAZI memorabilia. As of now they are saying James Blackwell WILL NOT be arrested.
It think ridiculous is an understatement for how disheartening these “Investigation conclusions” are. I will say this again stemming from my last post. THE RESPECT AND CARE FOR BLACK DEATH IS NON-EXISTENT. I used to scratch my head in frustration trying to figure out how much more obvious something needs to be for them to get that it was a Race Crime. Then realized that I was naive, they can see exactly what I see but their intention was to justify the crime not to punish the Criminal. How can you possibly expect her family to accept that she was killed by some guys rifle by accident? Is this a hunting area? This is so sad and such bullshit. White people kill blacks and know that the Police will give them “The benefit of the doubt”, Unwritten Rules: When you’re BLACK you’re GUILTY until PROVEN innocent, when you’re WHITE you’re INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty. You never hear of black people “accidentally” killing white people. Why? Because Black people know the POLICE, The prosecution, and White folks won’t tolerate it. We can get Killed by Zimmerman’s or Blackwells and they courts will take the side of the killer because of Privilege. Furthermore these BLACK DEATHS ARE A CONTINUOUS PATTERN.

People desperately want to feel like RACISM doesn’t exist and is a thing of the past. Some people  do not want to acknowledge racism. They ignore it and try to look at things from perspectives far from racism no matter if it’s right in their face. Lets get this clear ignoring racism and avoiding it in itself is RACIST. You are an enabler of Racism, just like someone who is aware of but quiet about another being raped, mistreated, ETC…Then people want to call you racist for pointing out some racist shit.
Black people have to stop being bamboozled by the “reports” and the media. Their agenda is always in favor of the agenda of the courts. Don’t allow their propaganda to desensitize you about something you Feel in your heart is Wrong. We cannot just pray about change ACTION is required. Blacks need to ORGANIZE and plan because this can happen to anyone of us at anytime.
I know “The Overseers” are going to come out and say “Well we kill each other everyday, why should we care about that?” Well that is true but does that justify Hate crimes by other races? Every race in the world “Kills each other everyday”  This post is about the Death of Jasmine Char and the mistreatment of her case. If you can’t understand that it’s not for you or your type of person.

NYPD Chokes Innocent Man To Death After He Breaks Up A Fight

A 400-pound asthmatic Staten Island dad died Thursday after a cop put him in a chokehold and other officers appeared to slam his head against the sidewalk, video of the incident shows.

I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe!” Eric Garner, 43, repeatedly screamed after at least five NYPD officers took him down in front of a Tompkinsville beauty supply store when he balked at being handcuffed.

Within moments Garner, a married father of six children with two grandchildren, stopped struggling and appeared to be unconscious as police called paramedics to the scene. An angry crowd gathered, some recording with smartphones.

The Staten Island resident was sitting in front of Bay Beauty on Bay St. and Victory Blvd. just before 5 p.m. when two plainclothes cops began questioning him about selling untaxed cigarettes, a video obtained by the Daily News shows.

I didn’t do shit!” the 6-foot-4 Garner, wearing a sweaty T-shirt and khaki shorts, told the officers from the 120th Precinct when they approached him. “I was just minding my own business.

Every time you see me you want to mess with me. I’m tired of it. It stops today!” he yelled.

Ramsey Orta, 22, who shot the video, tried to intervene, telling the cops his friend had just broken up a fight between three men and had not been selling cigarettes.

They jumped him and they were choking him. He was foaming at the mouth,” Orta told The News. “And that’s it, he was done. The cops were saying, ‘No, he’s OK, he’s OK.” He wasn’t OK.

They were choking him. He kept saying, ‘I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe! Get off of me, get off of me!’ and I didn’t hear any more talking after that,” said witness Valencia Griffin, 50, of Staten Island. “He died right there.

At the video’s end, the cop who had choke-held Garner can be seen staring at the camera that was videotaping him.

“This had nothing to do with the fight, this had something to do with something else,” the cop said, and walked away.

According to bystanders, the dozen or so cops who were at the scene didn’t attempt CPR. They were more concerned about dispersing the crowd who seen the murder.

VIDEO: Man Dies After 5 Police Jump Him — Chokehold Him For Selling Untaxed Cigarettes

A Staten Island man died Thursday after police placed him in a chokehold as they attempted to arrest him for selling untaxed cigarettes.

According to authorities, Eric Garner, 43, went into cardiac arrest and died at Richmond University Medical Center following the arrest that was filmed by several witnesses.

In the video, Eric can  be seen telling police that he had not been selling cigarettes, repeatedly saying, ” I didn’t sell anything,” before insisting, “I’m minding my own business, please leave me alone.”

After a standoff, five officers tackled the 400-pound asthmatic Ericwith one placing him in a chokehold – and wrestled him to the ground as they attempted to put handcuffs on him.

As Eric lay on the ground, with one officer pushing his head into the pavement, he can be heard saying, “I can’t breath. I can’t breath,” over and over.

As the video ends, Eric appears to be unconscious as police clear onlookers while waiting awaiting paramedics.

According to his family, Eric, a married father with six children and two grandchildren, suffered from asthma.

“When I kissed my husband this morning, I never thought it would be for the last time,” Eric’s wife, Esaw, told reporters.

Police stated that Eric has been arrested multiple times for selling untaxed cigarettes, and records show he was due in court in October on three charges, including pot possession and selling untaxed cigarettes.

Witnesses at the scene claim Eric was breaking up a fight when police arrived, with Eric’s family stating that he didn’t have any cigarettes on him or in his car at the time of his death.

“They’re covering their asses; he was breaking up a fight. They harassed and harassed my husband until they killed him,” Eric’s wife said.

Within hours after Eric’s arrest and death, residents in the area hung handwritten posters on telephone poles near the scene with phrases like “no justice, no peace” and “Another innocent black man has been killed by police brutality. The NYPD must be stopped!”

NJ High School Wrestling Team Under Fire For Noose Photo

Just hours after a New Jersey high school wrestling team took a state title, a disturbing photograph has emerged that appears to show them posing with a black dummy hanging by its neck.

The seven boys, dressed in maroon and white Phillipsburg High School colors, are shown in various poses as a dummy hangs from the ceiling. Two of the boys wear pointed hoods that are reminiscent of Ku Klux Klan members. In a morbid kind of caricature, the dummy appears to wear a wrestling shirt of the team’s crushed competitor, Paulsboro High School, located just outside Philadelphia.

According to the 2010 Census, 7.5 percent of the residents in Phillipsburg, located 19 miles northeast of Allentown, Penn., are black. In contrast, 36 percent of Paulsboro’s residents are black. Phillipsburg High School Wrestling Coach Dave Post declined to comment when reached by the Express-Times. He called the photo a “private student matter that’s currently under investigation.”

The Move Organization is a Black Liberation group from Philadelphia started by John Africa in 1972. According to the group, the word MOVE is not an acronym. It means exactly what it says: MOVE, work, generate, be active. Their philosophy is everything that’s alive moves and If it didn’t, it would be stagnant, dead. Movement is their principle of Life.  Self Defense is also one of their principles of life and On May 13, 1985 they definitely showed that. The confrontation began when police came to their house over 100 strong with guns aimed and demanded the MOVE members come outside. Still angry from the 1978 confrontation with police, which resulted in 9 MOVE members being sentenced to 30 to 100 years in prison, they refused. The police then began throwing tear gas and opening fire at the house. The MOVE house had been built as a bunker and they began shooting back. After hours of shooting, the Police called for a helicopter and dropped a BOMB on the house. Yup, you read right. The cops dropped a bomb in the middle of a neighborhood in Philly. It’s Crazy how far America will go to subdue Black people. After the bomb dropped, 65 homes were destroyed and 11 people including 5 small children were killed. As the survivors of the MOVE house began to surrender, police continued to open fire at them with automatic weapons. One of the MOVE children actually ran into a burning house to avoid being shot by police. She would later be found burned to death. There is a great documentary that was released that illustrates the constant police brutality they faced and the bombing.
Today 29 years later, the MOVE 9, like many other black political prisoners, continue to sit in Prison and each year they are denied the right to parole. In a system that has always been so hell bent against us, one must wonder, When Will We Overcome?
“Revolution starts with the individual. It starts with a person making a personal commitment to do what’s right. You can’t turn someone into a revolutionary by making them chant slogans or wave guns. To understand revolution, you must be sound. Revolution is not imposed upon another, it is kindled within them. A person can talk about revolution, but if they are still worshiping money, or putting drugs into their body, they obviously haven’t committed themselves to doing what’s right. Revolution is not a philosophy, it is an activity.” MOVE

I can’t believe I never heard about this

This happened about 7 blocks from where I grew up in West Philly, it’s not an exaggeration. The entire block and blocks around were leveled or destroyed, other blocks caught fire from brush or trees. The blast was strong enough that my mother and father could feel it all the way on Hirst and Market.

At least 4,000 aboriginal children died in residential schools, commission finds
January 5, 2014

Thousands of Canada’s aboriginal children died in residential schools that failed to keep them safe from fires, protected from abusers, and healthy from deadly disease, a commission into the saga has found.

So far, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission has determined that more than 4,000 of the school children died.

But that figure is based on partial federal government records, and commission officials expect the number to rise as its researchers get their hands in future months on much more complete files from Library and Archives Canada and elsewhere.

The disturbing discovery has cast a new light on the century-long school system that scarred the country’s First Nations peoples.

Evidence has been compiled that shows residential school children faced a grave risk of death.

“Aboriginal kids’ lives just didn’t seem as worthy as non-aboriginal kids,” Kimberly Murray, executive director of the commission, said in an interview.

“The death rate was much higher than non-indigenous kids.”

The commission has spent the last several years studying a scandal considered by many to be Canada’s greatest historical shame.

Over many decades — from the 1870s to 1996 — 150,000 aboriginal children were taken from their families and sent by the federal government to church-run schools, where many faced physical and sexual abuse.

A lawsuit against the federal government and churches resulted in a settlement that included payments to those affected and the creation in 2008 of the commission. Its job is to hold public hearings so people can tell their stories, collect records and establish a national research centre.

The commission has also established “The Missing Children Project” to assemble the names of children who died, how they died, and where they were buried.

The list of names will be contained in a registry available to the public. Murray said the exact number of deceased children will never be known, but she hopes more information will come from churches and provincial files.

“I think we’re just scratching the surface.”

Many perished in fires — despite repeated warnings in audits that called for fire escapes and sprinklers but were ignored.

“There was report after report talking about how these schools were firetraps,” said Murray.

She said it was well known that schools were “locking kids in their dormitories because they didn’t want them to escape. And if a fire were to break out they couldn’t get out.”

It amuses me that PoC hear “nigga/er” as a hurtful word to PoC, but they also need to realize that calling white people “crackers” or “saltines” is just as bad. They are both JUST as harmful, whether people take it differently or not. People should not be insulting races, it’s just dumb. We are people, no matter what we look like. Why don’t we start acting like people instead of insulting our differences?

the racial slurs made against people of color are far more harmful than terms like “cracker”. The n-word and cracker do not carry the same weight, and do not share the same history of oppression.

When a person from an oppressive group insults a person from an oppressed group it is more harmful than if a person from an oppressed group insults someone from an oppressive group.
