I was talking to this guy in the UK and he was like "be my Indian princess" and I was so confused and was like "you know I'm Native American not Indian right" and he said "bitch your Indian now send me photos of that sexy Indian body" I stopped talking to him. I can't believe people think we are some kinda of sex object because history classes lied about what happened to our people (I say our people because I know every tribe is different but we have to stand as one to get through to people)

You know what’s not beautiful? The fact that Native women are 2.5 times more likely to experience sexual assault. That 1 in 3 Native women will be raped at least once in their lifetime and around 85% of those rapes will be committed by non-Native individuals. Native women are either absent in media or fetishized. We are characterized in the media as primitive sex objects. This image is a racist stereotype and it also promotes the dangerous fetishization of Native women. Please, delete it.

“Native American” costumes promote racism and racist stereotypes. These costumes are dehumanizing and are often used to fetishize Native women. 1 in 3 Native women will be raped at least once in their life time. 85% of those rapes will be committed...

Wearing a costume to depict a race is racist. Wearing a hyper-sexualized “Native American” costume promotes the dangerous fetishization of Native women.

This is a piece I did for the Native show at Emily Carr.

The names written on my body are actual names for “sexy indian” costumes that can be bought online.

This piece is a visual response to when Halloween comes around again, and people feel it right to dress up as my culture in horrible old stereotypes and pass it as honouring our culture. But it doesn’t. It only adds to more to poorly represented image of Native Americans, and objectifies Native women.

I am a real Native Women and this my body and my culture. And I have a voice

you are stunningly beautiful and brave, and this is a really important piece.
