Gov. Walker to sign bill making it harder to force schools to drop American Indian nicknames
In a letter to tribal leaders, Scott Walker says he shares concerns about tribal mascots and nicknames in Wisconsin and across the country but is worried current state law infringes on free speech.NICKNAMES?! Those aren’t nicknames - they’re offensive to Native people. What if one or two or all of those schools called their teams “The Mighty Whiteys” or “The Over Priviledgeds” or “The Crackerz” or “The White Breadz” or “The Pale Facez” or “The Great Oppressorz” - would that fit the moniker or category of being just nicknames? Gov. Asshat (just a nickname) has got to go.
