On the topic of racist jokes: I think that they can ONLY be acceptable IF the joke is made by a person that is of the group being mocked, AND additionally, the people hearing it (also of the group) are 100% ok with it, and that if anyone present is not of the group they understand they can't make the same joke. My other NDN friends and I will sometimes make jokes about ourselves, but only we get to make those jokes, that's the thing. I hope that I made sense there?
I can understand that. I understand when a person jokes about their own people it is something similar to reclaiming a racial slur. Maybe I am wrong. Thoughts? However, the jokes in question were about a white guy making anti-black racist jokes, which is never okay.
