Like you guessed, I cannot answer this because it is not my culture, but from what I have read on the subject it is still stealing the idea and is not okay. Even by another name the stereotype is still there and therefore dehumanizing the cultures who wear dreadlocks. But please ask people from the cultures that practice dreadlocks.
