The argument ad populum (other people do it therefore it is okay!) is an invalid argument. Cultural appropriation is act of racism. What Harry did was promote racist stereotypes against Native Americans, promoted the dehumanization of Native Americans, and desecrated a sacred item by wearing a fake warbonnet. The warbonnet is a sacred item that must be earned and its use is still practiced to this day by some Plains tribes. Wearing a costume warbonnet is disrespecting those cultures and stereotyping Native Americans. Dismissing his actions only show your priorities and how Native Americans aren’t one; and that you condone racism. Reevaluate your priorities.
Also you are dismissing the feelings of actual Native Americans who are offended by these acts of racism by saying “boo fucking hoo” and denying its significance. You are not entitled to speak over Native Americans about the racism we experience. You do not get to grant non-Natives (or anyone for that matter) the right to misuse the warbonnet.
