too often when white people say they want to celebrate another culture it is self-serving. they want to “celebrate” a culture by taking from it, however authentic or unauthentic, to make themselves look spiritual/accepting/accepted/etc. too often…

1. How do you figure?
2. I’d love to see those.
3. Well, I don’t know about that. Is, for example, Americans appropriating Irish culture racist? Are white people able to be racist against white people? Is it self-loathing appropriation? What even makes appropriation racist?

1.) it is more harmful when a person from an oppressive group insults a person from an oppressed group than it is for a person from and oppressed group to insult a person from an oppressive group or person from another oppressed group. When a white person promotes racist stereotypes against X race they are also promoting the dehumanization of that group. When a group is viewed as subhuman violence and oppression against that group is inevitable. White people are the oppressive power. And because they are a power structure those who they oppress have less power; making their actions less harmful.

2. ) My blog is one of those blogs; that messages people about cultural appropriation; however, mine is just one out of very many. I am not going to list those sites because I doubt you will go those sites in an attempt to learn but to abuse; and I will not facilitate that. If you had actually researched cultural appropriation on tumblr you would have found their sites anyways.

3. ) White on white discrimination is not racism. White people can experience discrimination and/or prejudice but they do not experience racism. Irish cultures can be appropriated; which would be an act of prejudice. Appropriation is racist because it takes an entire race and/or culture and turning it into one racist stereotype. To racially stereotype a race is racist; and the disrespect one would have to hold for that race to actually commit appropriation is racist.
