Our program’s powwow is coming up (Feb. 15th) so the vendors are calling in booking their space and paying for their space, etc; and someone ( I ’ll just call her A ) called to reserve a space for herself. When my mother told her the price she became angry and demanded getting the discount price that is reserved for local native sellers. “A” is not native, she has no native children; she has no native affiliation at all. She has come to a few craft classes to learn how to make things and now she sells those things. She sells native-style crafts. She wanted the discount and my mother explained to her that the counsel agreed upon who would get discounts, years ago. You have to be native, local, and you have to volunteer a few hours to the program ( help put away chairs, help teach a class, help with cook, anything really ) and everyone agreed upon this. “A” became so angry that she called my mother a bitch and said she wants “nothing to do with Indians anyways”. One of her friends (who is white) is on my facebook and she sided with “A” so I made that post so she could rethink her loyalty.
