Cultural Appropriation does not exist and if you think it exists, you're an idiot.
Anyone can and will wear whatever they want and you have absolutely ZERO power to stop them. There’s no law against it. Anyone can wear a native American head-dress, anyone can wear Japanese yukata, anyone can get whatever tattoos, speak whatever languages, partake in whatever activities, people…
Why do so many white people care so little for the feelings of the people they are appropriating? Like you want to wear a warbonnet but don’t give a fuck about the Native tribes that still practice the use of them. In your mind it is all about you and your wants.
Refer to my post and deal with it buddy.
Congratulations on being offended. Welcome to being a human being.Having the freedom to do something does not mean that it is always the right thing to do. You have the freedom to promote racism and act on your racism; but should you? Do you truly care more about your image than an entire group of people? And if you choose your image over that group of people why copy them if you value them so little?
Notice how I never said that I myself have any interest in wearing a warbonnet or anything. I would agree with you that a white dude skolling beer at a football game wearing a warbonnet looks like a fucking idiot. But there’s nothing you or I can do to stop him. We can think he looks like an idiot. And in my opinion, he certainly does.
I wear a keikogi and hakama every Thursday, a traditional Japanese garment, because I am a practitioner of kendo, a Japanese martial art, one of the oldest and most ritualistic. You assume that people who “appropriate” other cultures hold those people to no value and see them only as costumes.
Are you saying I and every white person in my dojo devalue the Japanese? Are you saying that because of my skin colour and the place of my birth I am incapable of understanding and valuing the importance of the keikogi and hakama traditionally worn by the samurai?
If so, then that makes you a racist.
Cultural appropriation ain’t a thing, friend. People will do as they will.
And hey, I don’t agree with the opinions of racists, but everyone is allowed to have a voice and I’ll die for their right to say what they want. No one should be silenced, but that doesn’t mean people are exempt from the consequences of their words and actions.
I think you need to do your research before you make ignorant posts. You need to know the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation. Silencing marginalized groups is an act of racism. And I am still hearing you say “me, me, me”; it’s all about what you want to do, and wear, and practice. The focus is entirely on you, not the people you are taking from.
