
homoyaabemi kaantee? How are you all? I noticed I have a few new followers and I don’t think I have ever done an introduction post, so it is well overdue.
This blog is supposed to act as an educational tool and supportive space for Native Americans/First Nations people, and people of color. Most of the topics are about racism; cultural preservation, Idle No More, and environmental issues.
My name is Melissa Snowy Owl Rose Whitecotton; I go by Snowy Owl, Snowy for short. I live in Northern California, Maidu country. I grew up in a very small, rural town in the foothills and now I live in the valley. I have a daughter, whose name is Little Bear, she is seven years old. I am twenty six years old. I am Choctaw, Cherokee, and Cayuga; I am also white. I am biracial with white passing privileges. I identify as Native American. I work for an American Indian Education Program. I teach fancy shawl and jingle dance. I also am a resource specialist; I advocate for our native students, monitor their grades and tutor, and teach Indigenous crafts. I am an artist; I sing, drum (powwow music), dance, paint, illustrate, and write. I am pansexual- with a preference for women. Two spirit. I am coping with depression, anxiety, and PTSD. My daughter and I have ASD ( Autism Spectrum Disorder ).
I truly wish to hear from all of you about anything. I love getting submissions of any kind: photos, selfies, information, and news. I also love receiving messages containing your beliefs and thoughts. I hope this can be a safe space for you to open up. <3
