I have an important question: as a poc, how can I reach out and stand by/support native american communities? i understand, that while i am a black woman living in the country, i benefit from the continuing genocide/mistreatment of natives simply by living here. I notice that N-As are often forgotten when discussing race issues in this country and i want to change that. i understand that each community faces its own individual issues but i strongly believe in poc unity. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I think one of the most supportive thing someone can do for another is to get an understanding of their feelings. This is most difficult as everyone has their own individual feelings; however, researching and educating oneself about another person or group is a step towards understanding. The best way to show support is by trying to understand someone, their histories, their ways, their current needs, etc, etc.  You already understand this, so I am wondering if you are asking, what is the next step? I would start with following Native/First Nations tumblrs, or familiarizing yourself with Native American/First Nations news websites; to be able to see what some indigenous people are talking about and their feelings towards whatever the topic is. Another option could be to reach out in your community or form an online community for women of color, or Indigenous and Black women, or whoever you want it to include.

Please, anyone with any more ideas or information can you please write to me about it, so I can post it? I would appreciate it.
