Your actions do not grant permission for anyone else to do anything, ( in the context of cultural appropriation ). If it is your family’s culture and that became your culture; how could it be appropriation? I can understand your worry and it is good to be conscious of white privilege, white passing privilege, and cultural appropriation. I would suggest reading more about these topics so if someone tries to justify their stereotyping attitudes you can be able to state why your actions aren’t the same.
If you are wondering if you are appropriating a Native culture can you ask your family members? Can you ask someone in the community? I wouldn’t stop doing something special to me in fear that someone else will think it gives them permission to do it too; but I would stop if I thought or knew it was appropriating.
