Just for a second, assume that the motive is "because there aren't enough positive ndn or poc protagonists in stories" - the author can't help that they have white privilege, but knows writing "just another story with white heroes" will be labeled as such. So said white author is stuck? They have to write white characters because they're white?
I am not an editor or any authority on media and its misinterpretation but that motive sounds more like white savior mentality, and I am just not interested in it.
That motive is saying “well, since people of color aren’t getting published enough, nor do they get enough attention when they are, I will use my white privilege to write a book to shine light on them”.
