People who say sexism just happens to women remind me of people who say racism just happens to black people.
Like, no.
sexism = prejudice + power. men are the oppressive power over women; therefore, men are not oppressed. Men are not experiencing sexism.
You act as though men don’t oppress other types of lab men. Or women don’t oppress men. This argument is almost as ridiculous as Democrats v. Republicans. News flash, both groups oppress. Both groups can and are in positions of power now. If all sexism is just prejudice + power than literally any “ism” fits this category. I’m not trying to lessen feminism. I completely support your rights. But in the same vein of supporting your freedoms, I’m supporting mine. I just don’t get when unnecessary hate is dished out to people who “haven’t had it hard as women.” Yes. It’s an anger-inducing subject. But to invalidate the negatives that society has placed on me hurts. Us men may not have had it nearly as hard as women, but that doesn’t mean that we haven’t had society pressure us into fitting a certain “perfect” type. I am not a guy according to society other than my penis. I don’t go to the gym. I may watch sports if it comes up at work. I literally know nothing about cars. I have long hair. I have a roll of flab where my abs and muscles apparently should be. I have stretch marks. Bars are not my cup of tea because they’re literally filled with douchebag bros trying to score. My brain has a hardwire ON my dick so I can’t go out and have sex on a whim, I actually kind of have to be mentally attracted to the person. I enjoy talking to people about their feelings.
IN ALL OF THESE THINGS SOCIETY TELLS ME I’M WRONG BECAUSE GUYS SHOULD NOT BE LIKE THAT AND THAT IN FACT IT ACTUALLY MAKES ME A FUCKING PUSSY Using anger and hypocrisy does not get your point across well or effective. I just wish everyone would fight intolerance, whether male or female.
Men, especially white men, are the oppressive power. I can understand why one would not be nice to their oppressors. Why should someone be obligated to be nice to their oppressors? There is a difference between prejudice and sexism.
