Once you accept yourself the words of others cannot hurt you. You could say something about the diversity of indigenous peoples and how there is no one stereotype that “real” natives must look like. When they assume you are too pale to be “real” what they are really saying is “umm you don’t look like the stereotypes I’ve seen”, and “I am going to ignore how you identify because I feel like I have the privilege to decide what and who you are.”
