white people. you need to find better ways to express the evolving consciousness of your humanity. and it should not begin by relaying to a person of color : ‘you have taught me.’ ‘you have helped me be a better person.’ ‘you have given to me.’ ‘you have changed my life.’ this is still placing yourself in the receiving space from us. it is still disrespectful and privileged to assert yourself as the main recipient of who we are and what we do. you are not always/or often our target audience. with regards to my work you are being asked to appreciate, respect, and honor from the sidelines. just as i would not assume that a japanese theatre performance, or an indigenous peoples gathering is meant solely for me/ or that i should participate in it, you should not assume that you need to participate in and engage everything from your perspective. you have a limited perspective when it comes to people of colors’ beings, cultures, and life expression. there are some things in this world you do not, will not, can not understand because it is not yours, thus making your presence a hindrance and an imposition instead of a natural inclusion. i write this because, since i have had this blog, I have had the same experience over and over of white folks sharing with me how i have feed them, altered their consciousness, helped them, and this is not okay. if I have helped you, if you have really done/ begun the work of decolonization you would comprehend that placing your fulfillment in the forefront, bringing your emotions about your evolution to my inbox, is still a very self centered, self satisfying, and you-focused act. this is white privilege. do not do it. it is not welcomed here. it is not my work to tell you what better, more honoring ways there are to share your growth with poc, that is yours. i am simply saying your emotions about oppression are not my responsibility to care for, they are yours and seeking to make them my focus is just another stab of white privilege.
