Last night, this sign went up at a McAdory High School football game.
I am absolutely disgusted that this sign was allowed to go up, and that it was not stopped by school administrators, and that after this, no one has mentioned it.
The school and the students have shown no remorse for the sign (as expected) and the students have claimed ignorance and/or that it was just a “joke”.
Sorry, but the Indian Removal Act of 1830 and the death of thousands of Native Americans is not a fucking joke.
(Image description: football banner being held up which reads, “Hey Indians, get ready to leave in a Trail of Tears Round 2”)
WHAT THE FUCK. Signal boost, some people need to get fired for this shit.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW, LIKE REALLY, ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS, I FUCKING HATE EVERYTHING.
This is disgusting.
For the record, McAdory High School is in McCalla, Alabama, as part of the Jefferson County School District.
Here is their website, with a big “contact us” button at the top. Since it’s Sunday you probably won’t be able to reach them by phone but you can start emailing them.
You know what to do, folks.
ETA: just went to their website and saw this:

To Whom It May Concern:
On 11/15/2013 at a football game at McAdory High School, a sign was displayed that made reference to the “Trail of Tears” in which Native Americans were subjected to horrific atrocities. This was not condoned by the school administration, the Jefferson County Board of Education or the community. The person who would normally be responsible for approving such signs is out on maternity leave, and I take full responsibility that arrangements were not made to have the signs pre-approved before the ballgame. Please accept our sincere apologies to the Native American people and to anyone who was offended by the reference to an event that is a stain on our nation’s past forever.
In response to the “bust thru” sign used by McAdory High School during the Round 2 State Play-Off game versus Pinson Valley High School, all social studies and history teachers will re-teach and/or review units concerning Native American displacement following the Indian Removal Act of 1830.
Sincerely,
Tod Humphries
i espesh like the bit about re-teaching this stuff because these kids are dumb
Okay, I live in Jefferson county, if you can’t get over something like this, you need to grow up, how many other offensive things do you people most likely see daily? tons. you get so mad about this post. yet if you were at that football game would you have even said anything? NO. stop being little whiny tit bags and grow up.
You, sir, are a complete imbecile. If you cannot understand why or how incredibly offensive and insensitive the above image is, then you are quite ignorant and really need to go educate yourself. Claiming that there are other offensive things out there and on the internet that people ignore does not excuse the offensive and racist content of the above image. And you, as a white male who couldn’t possibly fathom or understand the still prevalent struggle of Native Americans in this country, do not get any say on what is offensive to Native Americans and what is not.
thisss is why tumblr is fucked up….holy fuck man its just a fucking joke and people take life wayyyy to seriously…indians are extinct now anyways
We are not extinct; and genocide is not a joke. This community is mocking a genocide of the Cherokee people which is dehumanizing and violent. This image and the people who support it are upholding white supremacy and mocking a people who have had genocide committed against them. It is not a joke and it is not okay.
