My graduating class had a Mexican dress up day to celebrate and I tried to fight the school about it and even though it was against the laws where I live to engage in that kind of activity, the school allowed it because 'Australians have nothing against Mexican stereotypes' and I was sent abusive messages on tumblr about it and then on the last day of school we had this kind of good bye assembly where I was made fun of and verbally abused in front of the entire school for trying to stop the day
Did your school wear stereotyped costumes?
You are very brave for standing up for what you believe in; I am sorry you had negative experiences with it. People who allow/perform these acts of racism that retaliate with anger and abuse only react that way because they know they are wrong. If they were coming from a place of ignorance they would be surprised and listen, not deny and attack you. They know they are wrong.
Be safe.
