If you are Ojibwe I will probably call you cousin. Actually if you are Native and we hang out you will eventually reach cuz status. It doesn’t take much to be considered family. If you dated my auntie for 3 wees back in 1984 I am still going to call you uncle when I see you at Wal-Mart. I find this is pretty common, the only time I hear an NDN say something like “they are my 3rd cousin by blood” is when they are trying to justify snagging their cousin.
