Social justice bloggers just need to stop
^tagged as #racism and #sexism
does that mean you believe oppressive groups should face no consequences? Not even online?
Not at all, i only used those tags…
The internet is a social network that can connect people from all over the world. Some people do not have the ability or means to travel around the world in an attempt to educate people. The internet is a useful tool in spreading information. Online activism does make a difference.
While this is true, it wont change anything in a wide scale. You may be able to change a few peoples minds. But for example, the people who will vote on such matters will not change their minds over some drabble on someones blog. Now a petition with millions of signatures would change something. But whining about it to the public online does close to nothing. Unless you are a blog that solely promotes things like petitions, its meaningless to complain.
I disagree. Discussion begins to get people thinking about whatever the subject is. It is the beginning of change. It can change people’s minds. I hope you aren’t insinuating that unless everyone changes, or a huge number of people change, is the only valid, worthwhile change. Small scale change is important. Discussion is important. Not everyone can can live up to your standards of what a social justice “warrior” should be like, but that doesn’t make them invalid.
