1. Cultural appropriation is a well-accepted, well-researched concept in the social sciences.
2. Of course you would look at it as a nod of respect, you wouldn’t know what it’s like to have your culture constantly stereotyped and misrepresented and disrespected.
3. A young person isn’t making a leap by wearing a bindi, they’re reinforcing the ‘Othering’ of desis/South Asians by using it as a form of rebellion. Again, this is a pretty well established thing in the social sciences.
4. Glibbes (the Celtic matted hair tradition) looks nothing like dreadlocs.
The only thing keeping walls up between cultures are disrespectful assholes like you that apologize for people that decontextualize, misrepresent and misuse the cultural traditions of others. We’ll start acting like ‘children of the universe’ when ya’ll white people stop killing people for practicing their cultures while simultaneously stealing from them.
