To that anon: Warbonnets are earned feather by feather for great heroic deeds and the like. They are also only limited to Plains tribes MEN. If a person is not one of those few tribes, a man, and a heroic person of sorts, then they most definitely have not earned it. Sometimes even heroic men just get a couple of feathers at best. So come on.

I have researched this topic on whether only men wore warbonnets or not and I have found ample documents in our archives and in internet research that suggests that from the 1850’s on that Blackfoot women sometimes wore warbonnets too. This practice is still current.

Thank you for the message <3

Anon take note^ like kawohni said: each and every feather must be earned after a significant act. These feathers are given to the person by other people in their tribe or by someone who was helped.
