How did you get the name Snowy Owl? I think I read it somewhere on your blog that you got it when you were seven. I was wondering how your parents picked the name for you.

My parents didn’t pick my name. I was given the name from an elder. I got her grandson out of a river that he was drowning in, did CPR, and carried him back to the powwow. She named me Snowy Owl and gave a speech about it there. The name stuck.
She is from a northern tribe and told the story of the snowy owl who died to save others. Snowy owl represents sacrifice in her culture.
