My native American headress came ^.^ it has these lovely little leather discs on the sides and also little fox tails hanging down.

This is actually exactly what I needed after a horrid day at work and then being an emotional drunk all evening haha

she tagged this as # culturally appropriative cis white chick

posting photos of people wearing costume warbonnets promotes racism. this is called cultural appropriation which is an act of racism. the warbonnet is a sacred item that must be earned not a fashion accessory.

“These fictions create confusion when they meet reality, these fictions can also cause harm when they replace reality. Today, there are 4.1 Million American Indians in this country, and many of them [like me] are urban. In fact, New York City has 100,000 American Indian people, while here in Albuquerque there are 33,000 American Indians. Now, we do not look, act, behave or believe in the same things, in fact, there is no one way to look or act, or to be Indian. We are diverse as the five-hundred and sixty-two sovereign nations.” – Professor Nancy Marie Mithlo, Chiricahua  Apache, at the TEDxABQ Women Conference speaking about Cultural Appropriation and Hyper-sexualization of American Indian Women

“Native Americans have fought hard to be allowed to have cultural identity — a basic right that was outlawed by the government until relatively recently. So yes, seeing a spray-tan sexy Pocahontas raising her hand in “hau” is more than an annoyance. It trivializes the fight that my parents and grandparents devoted their lives to. It trivializes my life and my sense of self. And I refuse to believe that any decent person would tell me to move on, to get over it, or to be flattered by it. My great-grandmother is not a Halloween costume. This shouldn’t be so hard to understand.”— Itacawin

Here’s some advice:

It’s a fucking hat. A fucking headpiece. Shut up about all of this racism and trivialisation bullshit and go outside for once.

not-a-single-word

Stupid boy. You need some education.

Actually, I agree with the comment above the one above mine. It’s just a headpiece. The poster clearly thinks it’s a pretty looking thing, and they have an interest in it. So what? They think it looks nice and as long as this person isn’t harming anybody, you shouldn’t really care. If you don’t like something, and it isn’t affecting you, don’t look at it. Because whoever is doing that thing has the right to do it.

These images are harmful and do affect people. These images reduce an entire race into something subhuman. These images promotes racism; these images promotes the idea that we are nothing but a costume. Warbonnets are sacred; perhaps you do not understand the meaning of sacred.
