How do you feel about people being assumed they are white based on their skin colour when in actuality they are Metis? We suffer this a lot, and it almost seems we must wear a giant sign for us to be recognized as Metis by all and not assumed white. Just wondering your thoughts on this problem?

I feel like a lot of mixed race and biracial people experience feelings like this. I look too ____ to be considered _____ . It is never a good feeling when people deny who and what you are. All I can really say is to know who you are, defend who you are, and don’t be afraid to be heard. If someone tried to identity-police you call them out on it and make sure you defend yourself. Their ignorance will continue until we “educate” them.
Embrace who and what you are. If you are truly self-confident then no one can say anything to hurt you. You know who you are, do not let them tell you who you are.
Native/Indigenous/First Nations people are fighting for our basic rights, our freedom, our acknowledgement, our respect etc. Do not let anyone take away your right to be who you are. <3
