I'm going to ask this on anon bc I'm scared of the hate I might get as a result of this message. I'm 17, European descent, New Zealander, and I have been learning Japanese in high school for 5 years. My teacher is Japanese, as are many of my class mates & friends. I do my best to learn as much as I can about the culture, language & traditions etc. I hope to live in Japan next year & I will be doing a bachelor of Japanese at uni. Would you consider this to be racism/cultural appropriation?

Answer

No, I would not consider that to be racism or cultural appropriation. Learning another language is a great way to show appreciation for that race and or culture(s).
