It isn’t racist

mysevenkids:

for me to say I’m part Indian when my grandmother, who raised me, was a half-blood Eastern Band Cherokee.  Of all the kids and grandkids, I look the most like her.  And one only has to be 1/8 Native American (which I am) to get their BIA card.

Fuck you and your self-appointed internet racist policing, sikssaapo-p (Nternet NDN).  If I want to say I’m Pocahontas I damn well will.

That is all.

But you are not Pocahontas, Matoaka lived through some terrible things and became a leader and advocate; it isn’t nice to claim to be her. She was a hero, not a costume, or a character to play…

And I do not like how you spoke to sikssaapo-p. This is not a blood quantum thing; I would be offended by anyone claiming to be Pocahontas. It is important to show respect to our heroes.
