Dreads are a part of a few cultures, practiced by specific groups. Wearing “dreads” when you aren’t from a culture who wore/wear them then that is cultural appropriation, an act of racism. I am not from a culture that practices dreadlocks so I cannot speak for them. There are people, on tumblr, who can better answer your question.
