part 1.white people or those raised in white culture are blind to what they do that they perceive as not racist. I love the Oregon thunderbird stories so when forever 21 was selling "native" themed prints I saw a bird one and it made me thing of the thunder bird stories! I bought it, then eons later on tumblr I learned what appropriation was. First reaction was anger, then after some time I learned that I was angry because I felt entitled. I got over myself and learned that appropriation hurts.

It’s hard to unlearn certain behaviors, especially when the education system is failing its students. White people are taught that racism is ONLY when you hate someone because of their skin color. It is hard for some people to realize that there is sooo much more to racism than hatred. I am glad to know that you were able to research cultural appropriation, and moreover, that you were able to take your emotions out of it so you could understand its meaning.
Many people cannot get over their own vanity; “I could never be racist!” mindset long enough to really think about it.
