Ok you know what? I’m getting tired of the media referring to Jorge Ramos as a “Hispanic journalist.” He’s Jorge Ramos. He is perhaps the most prominent source for news for Latinos all over the world. Trump has referred to him by name many times and clearly has personal issues with him. He knows Ramos is the make-or-break interview with the Latinx community and he is scared. I really wish white media would stop turning these stories into a “look how racist this is!” piece just so people will argue and click on their links. We don’t need to ask or wonder if Trump is racist anymore. We KNOW he is, yet he keeps being allowed to spew the same old thing over and over again because the media will go into a feeding frenzy and indulge his ego. How many times do you think we’ll get to hear what Ramos had to say? Or will he be drowned out by the fanfare of Trump drama?
My point? Stop framing our stories and struggles around Trump. He is not funny. He is actively hurting us. We see the effects of this when someone like Ramos gets billed as the “Hispanic journalist” when he has WAY more clout, influence and relevance than Trump. How about stop making stories about race into volatile battlegrounds and empower us instead?
