Reclaiming Melanin Monday
When I started Melanin Monday on August 11, 2014 it was to celebrate the beauty of all POC. Quickly, I started seeing people of various shades, shapes,gender identies, and cultures start to embrace their melanin and who they are. To the point where people would actually message me talking about how they didn’t start taking or posting selfies until I started this.
What I started as a self esteem and cultural boosting movement, was quickly taken and turned into an aesthetic based movement by a person who is not associated with me or the original movement.
Please help me reclaim Melanin Monday by doing a few simple things:
1. Please always tag my name on your selfie. It’s always easier for me to see them that way, plus people will know that i’m the real creator.
2. Do not tag the melanin monday tumblr page. I do not run it and I’m not involved with it in any capacity.
3. Please do not reblog the melanin monday photo sets that have the blue writing across them, because they are not mine and are not associated with the original movement.
Lastly, I want to say thank you to everyone who has called out the person who has tried to steal the movement away from me and to everyone who has continued to participate and submit photos to me.
