Can we also talk about the amount of money that goes into anti homeless measures that are not like shelters or food banks Like at the bus stops on the benches are bars that at first glance just look like seat separators but thinking about it when do benches get separators nope those bars are to keep people from sleeping on the benches. Then we have homeless spikes and laws that make it illegal to feed homeless people. So instead of helping these people thru medical, food, or housing programs we would rather build spikes and bars and arrest them. Feeding into our already over crowded prisons and giving them a record making it even harder for them to find work to get out of poverty.
Which also pings on the subject of productivity and how within a capitalist society if you are not producing capital you are worthless and seen as criminal
^^ literally that’s the only reason for those fucking bars. they’ve even made it illegal in some places to sleep in public
homeless people are forced to serve capitalism one way or another. housing scarcity has to be maintained or else property owners will lose money. a surplus labor force of desperate workers is essential to keeping wages low. being poor is a crime and prisoners are forced to work for basically no money. this system is working as it is designed to work. poverty is a feature of capitalism, not a market error or a moral failing on the part of the impoverished.
