When making an apology the thesis should not be the intentions of the person apologizing. In fact, the intent should not even be mentioned. Why? Because it is an erasure. It tells the offended person not to be upset because the intent wasn’t to hurt them. Intent is irrelevant when the outcome is the same. Apologize without mentioning your intentions.
And let’s look at her intentions. Her careers is bullying people, mostly women. The show fashion police has made many, so many, racist, transphobic, homophobic, misogynistic insults towards many celebrities. And she has made several and has laughed at several. Basically, her career is in bullying. So how can she argue her intent wasn’t to hurt Zendaya? Is she trying to lie saying my bullying you wasn’t meant to hurt you? My stereotyping wasn’t meant to hurt all the people of the group being stereotyped? She’s lying. It absolutely was her intent to stereotype and dehumanize Zendaya and all black people. Her statement should be regretting wanting to do this, rather than pretending her intent wasn’t what it was.
