so...what if I've ID'd as white my whole life but recently learned by combing the family history that I was 1/8th native? can I ID as Abenaki (that's the tribe) or no? should I just continue to ID fully as white and ignore the abenaki part? does it matter, given that it's only 1/8th and my great-grandmother was stolen from her family anyway and otherwise I wouldn't be part native at all?

If you are 1/8 Abenaki then you are mixed race. However, I cannot tell you how to identify, only you can do that. It is your choice. Are you interested in learning about the Abenaki culture? Are you hoping to become connected with a native community? These are questions you should ask yourself. :)
