Dreadlocks are trendy when white people bastardise it but unprofessional when a black man applies for a job. Dreadlocks are cool when white people try it but will get you kicked out of school if you’re a little black girl. Black people will wear clean beautiful and intricate dreadlocks and will be looked down upon as dirty, thuggish or unprofessional but white people will literally have a nest of matted rat tails on their head calling that flea ridden shit dreadlocks and be regarded as new fashion icons. I am tired.

This has to do with white privilege and cultural appropriation. She will not be denied a job, a photo shoot, or whatever it is celebrities do. She will not be labeled a dangerous thug. She will not be suspended by her high school like so many black children are because of their hairstyles. She will not be associated with negative labels. That’s the difference. Not to mention, she is matting her hair or wearing matted hair which is not the same thing as dreadlocks nor is she part of a culture who practices dread locking. She is stealing and is praised for it. Labeled a trendsetter while black people face discrimination and are exploited and not even given credit for the actual hair style.
