I had my ELL students draw pictures of themselves, and couldn’t help but hang my head when I saw my dark skinned, dark haired, dark eyed students choose to color themselves with peach and yellow and blue. Kindergarten through fifth grade, they all did it. They already subconsciously feel that being human means being lighter in pigment than they are. What the fuck is that going to translate into when they grow up?? #TOXIC
