An uneasy quiet settled over Ferguson, Missouri, on Saturday evening after another day without a decision from a grand jury on whether to bring charges against a white police officer for fatally shooting a black teen, 18-year-old Michael Brown.
On Saturday, the dead teenager’s father, Michael Brown, and some of the family’s supporters handed out Thanksgiving turkeys to residents in the street where his son was gunned down. Many were surprised when he knocked on their doors.
“I had to come and just give back to the people,” Brown told reporters. He wore a red T-shirt bearing a picture of his son’s face and the messages “Gone Too Soon” and “I Will always Love You.”
“Everyone is suffering over this,” he added. “I just feel that this was needed, so I came back to make sure that people have a nice Thanksgiving.”
Destroy the “good kid” narrative. Mike Brown deserved to live even if he wasn’t going to college, if he was aggressive and loud rather than shy, if he had a criminal record.
Mike Brown deserved to live, not because he was some sort of exemplary fluke in the Black community, he deserved to live because he was a human being and BLACK LIVES MATTER.
Waldorf on theReservation I have a need to share this story, because I have such deep respect for what the people of the Lakota Waldorf School have accomplished over the years…
when you talk about all the white serial killers and school shooters that were apprehended and taken into custody safe and sound despite the death tole they produced never forget how they didn’t even bother to take in ex-cop Christopher Dorner for questioning, they needed him dead on sight because he openly spoke of the racist corruption in police departments
I hope everyone who is not black knows that they are complicit in the dehumanization and devaluing of black life. Antiblackness exists outside of whiteness.
As of today a loan has been secured, but it will need to be paid back— even if you cannot donate before the sale is finalized in five days, anything would be appreciated.
