“El Maiz Es Nuestra Raiz, Our Seeds! Our Future! No Gmos! Finally done.Printed in my kitchen. I had to get over a few obstacles to get it done but it is finished! It’s my reflection on the resistance of indigenous/native people to GMO seeds. All the diverse varieties of corn throughout the Americas have sustained so many peoples and have been critical to the sustenance and spirit of the ancestors. today we must protect our maiz seed to protect young ones and the future generations. #dignidadrebelde #tallercocina #maiz #nogmos #decolonize

I need an image for my white privilege synthesis essay, and I always use your blog to help me out (6 week project) could you shoot me a good picture that can be analyzed to represent white privilege. Or at least a form of it. Having a lot of trouble finding a good source to use. Thank you xoxo

Chipewyan, a name given to us by the Cree which means ‘pointed skin’, (in reference to the clothes the Chipewyan wore) is an Aboriginal group that spans across the northern parts of Canada. However, most Chipewyan prefer to be called Dene (‘the people’) in place of Chipewyan.

I am not Indian. I have no ancestors from India.

I am a mixed race First Nations person whose history is rooted in the Dene people from Canada and the Aztec people in El Salvador.

Indigenous people are not a costume. Indigenous people are not a trend. Indigenous people are important and need to start getting the respect they deserve. - Mod M

While you’re at it don’t dress up as pirates either because pirates are not a costume. Pirates are not a trend. Pirates are important and need to start getting the respect they deserve.

I say we just ban costumes over all so we don’t offend any group of people, because we all know; If you are offended, you’re always in the right.

This is concerning. Very much so.

This person has been so trained through media and hollywood to think dehumanizing Native Americans is okay, that they even deny the basic cultural rights to a person, to their face.

They can look this woman in the eye and practically say “You don’t deserve basic rights”

Columbus was a pirate. He’s been respected for centuries.
And you wouldn’t be offended by pirate dress-up because you’re the ones enjoying his spoils.

-D

No one’s born a fucking pirate put that argument back in the trash pile.

Columbus wasn’t a pirate, by the way. He was a legitimate ‘explorer’, because that was a thing back then, funded by the Spanish Kingdom to go off and find new places for the Spanish to settle and establish trade routes.

And that argument that pirates need to be respected is just fucking stupid.

Columbus deserves no respect. He raped hundreds of Native women and children. He ordered the murders of hundreds of Native Americans; all while invading our homelands.

Pirate is not a race; there is a difference between stereotyping pirates and stereotyping an entire race. When people make exaggerations, like the one above, they are derailing the actual argument and speaking over actual Native Americans.

I agree with the girl you were arguing with yesterday. I think you missed her point. She doesn't mean learning things on your own and educating yourself on topics, she means explicitly when you go out of your way to tell someone they're wrong/their opinion is wrong and then not bother explaining how it is wrong. If a normal, average person said something homophobic that wouldn't be considered so and you told them they were wrong, and they asked, and you said "Educate yourself", theyd be confused

(continued) and because they’d be confused since you couldn’t be assed to try and correct that behavior, they’d probably write you off as a moron and ignore whatever you said. this has to do with other people, not with the girl you were arguing. she’s saying she doesn’t expect someone to change bad habits unless they know what they are. that’s exactly what she means, i think. and theres a difference between outright refusing to educate yourself and not knowing how to. i hope that helps. x ♥

1. I did explain to the person she referenced. That person refused to believe anything I said about racism and cultural appropriation and demanded I share blogs who agree with me. I refused to continue that conversation because it sounded threatening.

2. The oppressed are not obligated to teach their oppressors.

3. There is ample information out there; people from oppressed groups are not white people’s private tutors. Either one of them can google or look through hours of discussion on my page. They chose not to. She chose to focus on the one and only time I stopped a discussion with someone.
