linguistic and cultural scale: white latinos for example, they are white, but they are not culturally Anglo nor linguistically. Anglos frequently get angry and attack people who speak another language other than English. There is an oppressive culture surrounding non-English speaking, even if they are white people. In Canada, there was a thing where French-Canadians were told to "speak white" (Idk why, it's a European language, and yet...). Basically, linguistic and culture, not race oppression

White people having a prejudice against non-English speaking white people is prejudice, and can be discrimination; which is not a fun thing to experience but those non-English speaking white people still benefit from white privilege, and I wouldn’t classify them as oppressed based on their languages alone. Western countries, which includes Canadian governments, institutionally upholds white cultures while dehumanizing non-white cultures. A non-English speaking white person still benefits from white privilege.

not only is this fucking disgusting bc they’re laughing about ppl who can not afford food like haha it’s fine but it’s also utter bullshit fasting myths that I used to believe when I seriously struggled with my eating disorder.

now $133 dollars can’t even buy 2 weeks of groceries - which means ppl would have to be scrimping and saving to maybe afford one small meal a day - if that.

If you don’t eat for 12 hours your metabolic rate drops 40 percent and goes into storage mode bc it’s sensing famine.

now lets talk about how the foods that ppl on this budget can usually afford - cheap not exactly healthy foods. even if a person used all that money to buy expensive health food (which would maybe afford them a week at most of meals) they’d still be storing all of it due to their metabolism being out of whack.

so all in all they’d more likely than not gain weight and ppl would attack them with for being fat and lazy and rant about the “obesity epidemic”

Andrea Tantaros is not only being a massive classist asshole but contributing to the uneducated and dangerous ideas that help fuel eating disorders.

Would you say there is a difference between white people, WASPs, and Anglo-_______ (American, Australian, Canadian, what-have-you, but Anglophone and Anglo-cultured)? Idk how it is in California, but where I am from at least, there are many white non-Anglos who face oppression on a linguistic and cultural scale. They are white, but they don't have the same privileges as Anglos do by any means. Most people just lump them in with white though. And then of course, there's the WASPS.

Can you explain what you mean by “face oppression on a linguistic and cultural scale”? I maintain that all white people benefit from white privilege.

Did you know?

  • 80% of the House of Representatives
  • 80-85% of the U.S. Senate
  • 92%of Forbes 400 executive CEO-level positions
  • 90% of athletic team owners
