Learning about diabetes in school makes us more aware as a family. When my children learn about diabetes, it becomes a family issues, not just my issue. My children begin to see a clear connection between healthy living and avoiding diabetes.

Can we talk about this man for a second? Like how he’s been silently slaying for years. Many of you know him from Law and Order SVU as the psychiatrist (personally episodes that were centered around him were my favorite) , but he was also on the popular show “OZ”, and he was the voice of Shang in both “Mulan”  and “Mulan 2”. He’s a queer person of color and is in a loving relationship with his long term partner Richie Jackson since 1998. Like this man is amazing.

Always up for Wong…

Never forget the foundation of Law and Order.

People really don’t know that America’s first police force was made to keep watch for runaway slaves and keep free ones in check. This has carried over into today and will never stop, unfortunately.

KRS One tried to tell us

The first police “organizations” were Rattle Watches. The first police officers were Runaway Slave Patrolman, which started in 1705.

Historical context is significant

sometimes people don’t know or forget that I am white passing and my daughter is white passing. they want to believe I am not white so they can ignore what I say about racism and white privilege. they want to use the excuse of ‘well, you just hate us because we are white’ but guess what, i get all the same benefits that you do. And although I am native, i am white passing, I have white privileges; and ignoring people of color, and people you think are people of color, is an act of racism.

hey pocahontas im one of those white people u think is a sociopath even tho u dont know me u think u can judge hmm sounds alot like racism oh my how imbarrassing for u

generalizing white people is survival. it is not racism; it’s not even prejudice.

Hey anon, it’s kind of hard to understand what you’re trying to say with your god-awful spelling then again I bet it’s hard for you to type properly with your head all the way up your ass like that…

Just curiosity for the sake of understanding (don’t jump down my throat), how is generalizing a whole group of people not prejudice?
Also, how is it survival?
For example I’m white, so if you try to judge me do you get like health points and avoid being sick for a year?
Now back to my being white, if I were to generalize any other group of people I would be called a racist.
Why is it not similar?
Again, just trying to be open and understanding.
Thank you.

Hello Corinderella, I hope I can clarify a bit since I wrote that generalizing white people is not prejudice. The reason generalizing white people is not prejudice is because prejudice is an act of dehumanization. Prejudice is having a belief of inferiority about a group of people for whatever reason, and then dehumanizing that group. The goal of generalizing white people is not to dehumanize them, but to acknowledge and dismantle their position of power.

Generalizing white people is a survival mechanism because, although not all white people are racist and harmful it is safer to assume that they are. People of color experience violence, rape, murder, genocide, assimilation, and other acts of prejudice by white people. White people, as a power structure, are the oppressive power. One should not trust their oppressor. One should know their oppressor and assume they will all act similarly in order to stay alive.

I hope this helps clarify if not feel free to message me.

Richard Haste, an NYPD officer, killed an unarmed black teen (Ramarley Graham) in front of his grandmother and 6-year-old brother at point blank range over marijuana. The landlady, Paulet Minzie, 55, ran out the shower with only a towel after hearing the gunshots. Officers then put a gun to her head and told her to put her hands up. It wasn’t until she told them that there were cameras surveilling them, that they put their guns down.

Court papers say “[He\] immediately lowered his weapon. His demeanor completely changed, and he alerted his colleague that they may be on camera,”. The footage later revealed that Graham walked calmly to his apartment followed by police barging in without a warrant, contradicting the officers original claim that the teenager was running away from him. (Source)

Haste was freed on $50,000 bail yesterday after pleading not guilty. Police cheered for him as the parents of Graham wept in the court room.

I am beyond disgusted.

You know what’s really fucked up? That a known Klansmen speech writer can reinvent himself, falsify his Cherokee lineage and culture and white people (and famous POC like Oprah) just go about making him a million dollar liar because his writing fits into their idea of what a Native American should be. It’s like the worst case of the blood myth…Even the Cherokee words that are in this book are not even real Cherokee words….It’s required reading in some parts of the US. I just can’t phathom.

This is why Cherokees have such a bad name with other Natives. Our identity often gets hi-jacked by pretendians and now some of the Cherokees are trying to make capital off of it. Can we stop all this appeasement shit, and fight the power structure with our sister Nations?

P.S. Here’s a sources to my claims.

P.P.S. This is not an indictment on the OP. Just our society’s ignorance in general.

idk if you want to post this but it's more for your anon. I'm white and I didn't know I was shitty and being racist. Why? Because white people learn racism is just hating people based on skin color. But it's more than that. It's upholding misinformation that you hear over the source. It's believing what we hear about groups of people rather than listening to what they say. It's even as easy as believing the history you're taught in school because it's been whitewashed and made genocide look nice

hello- different anon btw and i was hoping if u have time if u can explain why thinking white people are sociopaths is not prejudice. i totally understand that white people do not experience racism but isn't it prejudice to judge everyone based off of a few? im sorry im just trying to understand

Answer

Generalizing white people is based off of their extreme position of power, their privileges, and their benefits; it has nothing to do with their skin color or anything to do with their appearance. This is about power not appearance. And while prejudices can be formed for any reason about any group the reason it is not prejudice to generalize white people is because they are the oppressive power. It is just my opinion, because when I think of prejudice I associate it with attempting to dehumanizing a group of people for whatever reason. Addressing and dismantling an oppressive group is not the same as dehumanizing them.

I am not a servant devoted to everyone who has an ignorant question to ask. I am not obligated to talk to, explain, and coddle everyone who wants me to. White people feel like they are entitled to everything and everyone. It just isn’t so.
