When The New York Times tried to ask Jhumpa Lahiri what immigrant fiction inspired her, she smacked the question down by saying there is no such thing as immigrant fiction. “If certain books are to be termed immigrant fiction, what do we call the rest? Native fiction? Puritan fiction? This distinction doesn’t agree with me. Given the history of the United States, all American fiction could be classified as immigrant fiction.”

make your child stop screaming or I will

patience is a form of kindness; please show children kindness.

The amount of people who reblogged this and were serious is actually upsetting. I’m pretty sure none of these people really understand how hard it is to just stop a child from crying sometimes. Kids cry and act out for a reason, it’s never just to irritate people. Threatening a child is disgusting and wrong, even if you’re just “making a joke”. Also, do these people realize how stressful this situation can be on the parents as well? It’s hard enough trying to discipline your kid in public, even harder when everyone around you is judging or threatening you.

Agreed. And let’s look at screaming. Screaming literally means I want or need something but I’m not sure how to articulate that. To get angry at a child because they need or want something is not the proper way to react. Sure, sometimes kids want something they can’t have and no one likes to hear a loud screaming sound, but try looking through a child’s eyes. “I really like this, and I want it, and no one is listening to me! why won’t anyone listen to me or understand me?” Show some compassion; children go through so much unexplained stress everyday.

it is still prejudice and having a prejudice is a bad thing even if they are black or white

Answer

ok but here’s the difference. when people have a prejudice against Black people, Black people experience genocide, rape, violence, assimilation, relocation, and more. When people have a prejudice against white people, white people could lose their unfair position of power.

“Many forms of resistance to colonialism and empire are necessary and important, and this poster should not be interpreted as dissuading those forms of solidarity and resistance. Nor should anti-colonial consciousness and decolonization be thought of as mutually exclusive forms of action.  They often co-exist as “named” movements side by side. This poster seeks to point out that they may not be equivalent, and there are some critical differences between the two.

Recognizing many of the settlers engaging in this resistance identify as anarchists or dwell on an anti-colonial anarchist fringe, we ask you to consider how the pursuit of an anti-colonial  consciousness can still allow settler moves to innocence – diversions and distractions that relieve settlers of feelings of guilt while concealing the need to give up land, power, and privilege.

When anti-colonial action is complete, there is no guarantee that the settler has learned any more about who he is, or where he comes from. The inner work to heal the spirit from historic traumas that allow and perpetuate colonization may not be engaged.

Decolonization creates the possibility for the settler to become something more  -  to heal Indigenous identity, story, and spirit and deconstruct the very source of colonizing thought.”

Yeah, I agree with other anon, you're not white-passing

Answer

I have heard both sides in person; some think I look white passing and some don’t. Either way I am (probably) half white and there are some people who think I am only white and because of that I do have white privilege.

hi i'm white too and i just wanted to say i think you are awesome & that mistrust for your oppressors is always justifiable. i am around other white people all the time and i have learned that we all all generally hella racist and you are right to be wary. your anger is righteous no matter what anyone says. keep fighting
